June J. Anderson, 103, died at the Cloverlodge Care Center in St. Edward, NE, on Thursday, March 20, 2008.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at the St. Edward Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m., with Father Jim Novotny officiating. The burial was held at the St. Edward Catholic Cemetery. Visitation was held on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the service time, at the church.

David Carl Rutten, 57, of York, NE, died Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at home in York.
Funeral service was held at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 24, 2008 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York, NE with Reverend Tim Marshall officiating.
Memorial service was held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at Cedar Rapids, NE with burial being at Sunrise Cemetery east of Cedar Rapids.

Husker Hoops charity basketball game set for Albion

Get ready to cheer for the Huskers - or for your local high school basketball favorites - or both!
The Boone County Health Center Foundation has announced a fundraising event featuring a basketball game between seniors from the University of Nebraska football team and athletes from area high schools Saturday, April 12, at the Boone Central gymnasium in Albion.
Approximately 10 Husker football players will be on site to participate in the charity game. The event will kick off at 6:00 p.m. with autographs and the court contest will commence at 7:00 p.m.
Planning Commission considers zoning changes

Several possible changes in Boone County’s zoning regulations were discussed by the County Planning Commission and their consultant, Keith Marvin, during a meeting Monday night in the county courtroom.
Eight planning board members, two county commissioners and about 30 members of the public explored such issues as concentration of livestock feeding units in given areas, the use of “odor footprints” in determining setbacks, manure storage systems, use of waivers and special restrictions for the Valentine sands area in the northeast portion of the county. Hospital gets concrete through the roof

A special pumper truck was used to pour concrete through an opening in the roof of Boone County Health Center last week. It was part of the hospital’s current Phase II renovation project. See print edition of the Albion News for details.
Turkeys visit Albion residential area

These birds were part of a flock of 16 wild turkeys that paid a visit to Albion’s residential area last Thursday afternoon, March 20. The turkeys were quiet and courteous during their excursion, mostly using the sidewalks along Third Street. At times, they made brief stops in residential yards to search for food.
Shannon Landauer is new BCDA executive director

Shannon Landauer
Shannon Landauer, secretary of the Boone County Development Agency (BCDA) for the past 2 1/2 years, is serving as the agency’s new executive director.
Landauer was named executive director last week by the BCDA Human Resources Committee. Timothy Brazeal of Norfolk, who had served in the position since September, 2007, is no longer executive director. Read more
