Maxine Ardell Palmer, 69, died at her home on Thursday, March 13, 2008 in Columbus, NE.
Visitation was held on Sunday at Levander Funeral Home in Albion. Services were held on Monday, March 17, 2008, at Zion Lutheran Church in Albion, NE, Rev. Larry Sydow officiated and burial was at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Albion.

Jerry Lee Ewing, 63, of Opal, Wyoming, formerly of Central City, died on Friday, March 14th, 2008, in Rock Springs, WY. Private memorial services will be held by his family at a later date. Earvin E. Noble, 81 of Albion died Sunday, March 16, 2008 at the Boone County Health Center in Albion.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 20, 2008 at the United Church of Christ (Congregational) in Albion with Rev. Mary Avidano officiating. Burial will be in the Akron Bonanza Cemetery, rural Albion.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. at Levander Funeral Home in Albion.

Edward E. Happ, 70 of Greeley died March 13, 2008, at the Greeley Care Home.
Mass of Christian Burial was on Monday, March 17, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at the Greeley Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Fathers Joe Hannappel and John Cook officiated. Visitation was on Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. at the church. Memorials are suggested to the family’s choice. T.J. Finn and Son’s Mortuary of Greeley was in charge of arrangements.
Duane E. Hinkle
Mass of Christian Burial was on Saturday, March 15, 2008, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Spalding for Duane E. Hinkle, age 59, who passed away on March 10, 2008 at his home. Revs. Joe Hannappel and Jim Murphy officiated. Visitation was Friday, March 14 from 6 to 8 p.m. with a prayer vigil at 7 p.m. at the church. Burial was in the Bartlett Cemetery.
Lawrence B. Gallion
Lawrence Barclay Gallion, 74, of Fredericksburg, formerly of Fairfax Station, died on Friday, March 7, 2008 at the Woodmont Center in Fredericksburg, VA.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 20, at Arlington National Cemetery.

Chamber plans coming activities

Albion Chamber of Commerce discussed plans for upcoming events and activities during a general promotional meeting last Thursday, March 13, at Fairview Lanes.
The Chamber is proceeding with small garden bridges, 5 1/2 feet long and 3 feet wide, to be decorated and displayed in the business district for the Cattlemen’s Ball in June. Read more

City Council accepts fire station construction bids

Construction bids on the new Albion Fire Station were accepted by the City Council in a busy session last Tuesday night, March 11.
The bids, totaling $776,611 were presented by Roger Ternus, fire chief, after recommendation from architect Michael Kennedy. Read more

Four Boone Central athletes were named to
the 2007-08 Mid-State All-Conference basketball teams at a meeting of league coaches last week.
Seniors Kraig Flanagan and Anthony Michael and junior Ryan Shotkoski were selected to the boys All-Conference first team, while junior Stephanie Paulson received girls first-team honors.
Senior Brent Dawson and junior Kalvin Zoucha were Mid-State Honorable Mention in boys voting and junior Brittany Luettel received Honorable Mention on the girls side. Read more

Chadron State College’s Josh Majerus, ranked #1 at 197 pounds all season, capped off a stellar junior campaign by claiming his first national championship with an 8-3 decision over Donovan McMahill of Western State during the final round of the 2008 NCAA Division II National Wrestling Championships. Big turnout for Easter Egg Hunt

Albion’s annual Easter Egg Hunt was well attended on Saturday, March 15, with a total of 120 children participating.
Younger children up to age six hunted at Good Samaritan Wolf Memorial Home, while children ages seven to nine hunted at Samaritan Estates assisted living center. The first 110 children to register were eligible for special bags full of goodies. Boy Scout Troop 155 assisted by hiding the eggs.
