Planning Commission tries to ’strike a balance’

June 25, 2008

Boone County’s Planning Commission tried to “strike a balance” in recommending changes in regulations for confined livestock feeding operations (LFOs) Monday night.

Chairman Paul Groeteke said the commission’s efforts were aimed at finding a middle ground between those who want more restrictions on LFOs, and those who want fewer restrictions on these operations.

After hearing more than an hour of public testimony, the eight-member commission considered proposed changes on an item-by-item basis. They sent the approved items on to the Boone County Commissioners, with a review by legal counsel, for public hearing final approval possibly by July 14.
