Reidmillers sell Albion Lockers

Dave Dalton, left, has purchased the Albion Lockers from Lois and Jim Riedmiller.
The Reidmiller family has owned and operated Albion Lockers for the past 37 years. Jim plans to continue working at the locker to help the Daltons, who will take over the operation Aug. 1.
More information on the business and its sale will be announced next week.
Commissioners endorse Third Planet Windpower project

on Monday passed a resolutio endorsing the wind generation project being developed east of Petersburg by Third Planet Windpower, LLC.
Steve Boyer, representative of Third Planet Windpower in the Petersburg area, said the company is amending its original bid to Nebraska Public Power District and creating a Community Based Energy Development (C-BED) project. Read more
Plenty to see and do at the county fair

Climbing Wall
The fair’s racing theme has been carried out with special evening entertainment that included both the WDRL races on Sunday night and the first-ever Nebraska appearance of the World of Outlaws Late Model racing series on Monday night.
Wednesday night’s Combine Demolition Derby and School Bus Races were expected to attract big crowds to close out the fair.

Good Neighbor Awards
Receiving the awards were Lonnie and Ruth Zrust (top photo) and Gloria and Larry Pochop (lower photo).
The Zrusts were nominated by their neighbors, Bob and Marjorie Reynoldsen. The Pochops were nominated by a large group of neighbors that included Connie Sugden, Cheryl Kuehner, Betty Sharp, Dean and Carolyn Schmid, Bev and Stan Sherrill and Lonnie and Ruth Zrust.

George Bittner, 79, died July 15, 2008 at the Friendship Villa in Spalding. Funeral services were held Friday, July 18 at 2 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Community Church in Spalding. Rev. Ray and Mary Avidano officiated. Burial was in the Albion Cemetery.
Ila Cleone Ellinger
Ila Cleone Ellinger, 86, of La Vista, died July, 14, 2008. Funeral services were held at Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Omaha. Interment was held in the Calvary Cemetery in Omaha.
Rita C. Kramer
Rita C. Kramer, 87, of Seneca, KS, died Thursday, July 17, 2008 at the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in Seneca. Mass of Christian burial was held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 22 at Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Seneca. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Helen J. Kaufmann
Helen J. Kaufmann, 94 formerly of St. Edward, died Thursday, July 17, 2008 at the Crete Manor in Crete, NE.
Memorial services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Miller Levander Funeral Home in St. Edward with Rev. Timothy White officiating. There will be no visitation.
Anne Briese
Anne Briese, 86, formerly of the Albion, area died on Thursday, July 10, at Cascade Terrace in Portland, OR. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 18, 2008 at Zion Lutheran Church in Albion. Rev. Michael Kern officiated the ceremony. Burial was held in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Albion, with Military Rites conducted by American Legion Post #162 and VFW Post #736 of Albion.

Albion’s American Legion Seniors jump-started a 10-5 victory over Pierce in the opening round of the Class B Area 5 district tournament at the Albion Sports Complex with an uncharacteristic power barrage in the first two innings Tuesday night. Read more
