BC Volleyers Continue Strong Start

Following up a 6-0 start to the 2008 season, Boone Central’s volleyball team posted a 3-2 record against quality competition this past week.
The Cardinals opened their week with a split in triangular play at Norfolk Catholic Thursday, then won 2-of-3 matches for third place in Saturday’s Central City Invitational. Read more
Card Softball Team 11-10 After 3-3 Week

Boone Central’s varsity softball team continued a hectic schedule over the past week, splitting six games to improve its season record to 11-10.
The Cardinals scored a victory at Wisner-Pilger Thursday, Sept. 18, posted a 1-2 record in a tough G.I. Northwest tournament Saturday and split contests with Madison and West Point C.C. Monday in a triangular at the Albion Sports Complex. Read more

William J. Krohn
William J. Krohn, 80, of Albion, died Friday, Sept. 12, 2008 at the Friendship Villa in Spalding. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 15, 2008 at Zion Lutheran Church. Rev. Larry Sydow officiated. Burial was held in the Rose Hill Cemetery.
Marcella C. Becker
Marcella Catherine Becker, 78, of Newman Grove, died at Madonna Rehab in Lincoln on Monday evening, Sept. 8, 2008. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008. at St. Michael Catholic Church. Fr. Stan Schmidt officiated. Burial was held in the St. Michael Cemetery.
Rose Marie Matson
Rose Marie Matson, 68, of Schuyler, died on Sept. 11, 2008 at the Fremont Area Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, at the Svoboda Funeral Home North Chapel. Vicor William Mattfeld will be officiating. Visitation at the funeral home will be held Wednesday, Sept. 17 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Thurs. starting at 9 a.m. Burial will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Clyde Cemetery, in rural Rogers.

Arnum W. “TINY” Mohr, died on Aug. 16, 2008 in Omaha. Services will be held on Sept. 20, 2008 at 10 a.m. at Kahler & Dolce in Papillion. There will be a “Last Ride” from Papillion to Albion’s Rose Hill Cemetery where graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. Reception will follow at Zion Lutheran Church in Albion.
LoJean Colfack
LoJean Colfack, 75, of Keaney, died on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008 at the St. John’s Center in Kearney. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 12, 2008 at the United Church of Christ in Albion. Rev. Mary Avidano officiated. Burial was held in the Rose Hill Cemetery.
Thelma T. Johnsen
Thelma T. Johnsen, 89 of Cincinnati, OH, formerly of Beatrice, died on Monday, Sept. 8, 2008. Funeral services were held on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Beatrice. Burial was held in the Immanuel Stateline Cemetery of rural Wymore.

After defeating traditional Mid-State Conference power West Point Central Catholic for the first time in 12 years Thursday night, the Cardinals followed with the first championship in the history of their own Boone Central Invitational Saturday.

That was the margin between victory and defeat for the Boone Central football team Friday night, as the Cardinals dropped a 7-6 heartbreaker to visiting Grand Island Central Catholic at the BC Athletic Field in Albion.
In a game plagued by steady rain throughout, points were at a premium and the single digit provided by Austin Witmer’s PAT kick enabled GICC to rally from a 6-0 deficit and eke out the victory. Read more

Card Harriers Post High Finishes

Boone Central’s top individual runners again turned in impressive performances at the always-tough Norfolk Catholic Invitational Friday, Sept. 12.
The Cardinals scored top-five finishes in each division of the meet that featured some top Northeast Nebraska runners.
“We had a great day to run, nice and cool, you couldn’t ask for a better day this early in the season,” noted Card Coach Tom Dickey. “As a result, we ran pretty fast!” Read more
County Commissioners schedule information meetings on courthouse project

Information meetings on the proposed Boone County Courthouse expansion/renovation project will be held in towns throughout the county starting next week.
County commissioners on Monday set the meeting schedule as follows:
- Albion Area Meeting, Monday, Sept. 22, 8 p.m. in the Courtroom of the Boone County Courthouse. This meeting will follow the Boone County Planning Commission meeting Monday evening.
- Cedar Rapids Area Meeting, Tuesday, Sept. 23, 7:30 p.m. in the Cedar Rapids Community Center.
- St. Edward Area Meeting, Thursday, Sept. 25, 7:30 p.m. in the St. Edward Fire Hall Meeting Room. Read more
