Robert H. “Harry” Hollenbeck
Robert Harry Hollenbeck, 86 of Albion, died Friday, Oct. 24, 2008 at the Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center in Albion. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008 at the Levander Funeral Home in Albion. Rev. Mary Avidano officiated. Burial was held in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Albion, with Military Rights by the American Legion Post 162 and VFW Post 736.

Competing against Nebraska’s best Class C harriers in cold, wet weather conditions over the challenging Kearney Country Club course, junior Kevin Carder and senior Halie Smith scored top five individual medals. The Boone Central boys team garnered a solid sixth place finish.
“Friday’s state meet may just have been the best performance by a Boone Central cross country team ever! There was not a single disappointment,” exclaimed Cardinal Coach Tom Dickey. Read more

If you think the school and community were excited, imagine the jubilation in the Rich Weeder household!
Under Rich’s guidance as Bulldog coach, junior Kevin Weeder and freshman Andrea Weeder swept the Class D individual gold medals - just the second time in history a pair of siblings won cross country state titles in the same season.
With the Weeders leading the way, the Holy Family boys dominated the competition to win the Class D state championship and the Lady Bulldogs placed second to two-time defending champion Crofton.
When asked for comments on Friday’s accomplishments, Weeder happily replied “How many do you want? It’s been the buzz around the house non-stop this weekend!”

Shamrocks Blank Boone Central Gridders

Having gained a probable berth in the qualifying round of the 2008 state football playoffs with a win over David City October 17, Boone Central hoped to close its regular campaign and gain momentum for the post-season with a victory at Columbus Scotus Thursday.
The Cardinals could never get untracked offensively against the athletic Shamrocks, however, and dropped to 3-5 with a 17-0 loss at Pawnee Park’s Memorial Field. Read more
Boone Central 6th in Mid-State Volleyball

Boone Central opened play in the 2008 Mid-State Conference volleyball tournament Monday by splitting a pair of matches.
The 4th-seeded Cardinals lost a five-set heartbreaker to West Point Central Catholic in the first round, then swept Madison 3-0 in consolation play.
Tuesday, the Cardinals battled Hartington Cedar Catholic in the 5th place match, dropping a tough 3-2 decision to the Lady Trojans.

Card Volleyers 12-7 Following Sweep

Looking to gain momentum for the Mid-State Conference and C1-9 Sub-District volleyball tournaments, Boone Central swept matches in the Twin River triangular Tuesday, Oct. 21, at Genoa.
Following up a key conference road victory at Hartington Cedar Catholic, the Cardinals nipped a solid Twin River squad in two close sets and rallied for a 2-1 decision over Fullerton. Read more

Child identification program held here Saturday

Dr. John Williams gets a dental imprint from Carsen Grape, daughter of Jeff and Sarah Grape, during the child identification program.
Child Indentification Program (CHIP) was held Saturday, Oct. 25 at Boone Central Elementary under sponsorship of Albion Masonic Lodge #78, A.F. & A.M.
The program was free and open to all area parents and students. The day was spent taking digital photographs, along with a video interview, fingerprints, toothprints and DNA cheek swabs of the chidlren. Children up to the age of 18 were able to participate in the program. All the materials were given to the parents for safekeeping. Read more
