Halie Smith Won The Seniors Girls Division
What a day for Boone Central and Lindsay Holy Family runners in the Boone Central Individual Invitational cross country meet, held Friday at the Albion Country Club.
Holy Family freshman Andrea Weeder and Cardinal junior Kevin Carder dominated the girls and boys races, respectively, BC senior Halie Smith won the senior girls division and Holy Family swept first place in team scoring.
Impressive.
“We had some great things happen Friday!” exclaimed Boone Central Coach Tom Dickey. “We had four class winners and several additional medal winners.
“I was extremely pleased with the incredible improvement Kevin Carder has shown! He won his first race ever in fine fashion, beating several runners who had beaten him earlier this season.”

Carder had the most impressive performance of the day for BC, easily winning the overall boys race in a time of 16:21. Smith finished second overall in the girls competition, first among seniors, in17:20.
Weeder turned in an even more impressive performance on the girls side, blitzing the field with a 16:04 clocking - more than a minute ahead of her nearest competition. Fellow frosh Brianna Korus was third, behind Smith, in 17:52 and Kevin Weeder took overall boys runner-up honors behind Carder in 16:50.
Cassidy Pribnow won the junior high girls race with a 9:29 clocking and Calvin Koziol took the boys junior high division in 8:13.
Although it was an individual invitational, team scoring was figured, with Holy Family winning the girls (20) competition and tieing Central City on the boys side (40).
All in all, a fabulous performance by area runners, who fought through the hot, windy conditions to set themselves up for a strong stretch run in this 2008 cross country season.
