After a sizzling 6-0 start, the Boone Central volleyball team has hit a bit of a rough stretch in its 2008 season.
The Cards saw a recent losing streak reach four matches last week with home losses to Ord and Battle Creek.
Part of the equation for the lack of success has been the quality of competition. A week ago, BC lost to Class B Adams Central and C1 #3 St. Paul. Ord is the defending C1 state champion and Battle Creek has a sparkling 14-2 record in 2008.
The Cardinals got off to a strong start against the Ord Chants Tuesday, winning the initial game by a 25-21 count. Ord rebounded to take three straight competitive games (25-17, 25-17, 25-19) and score the match victory.
“The girls played really well,” commented Boone Central Coach Erin Eickhoff. “They definitely made Ord work for the win.

Boone Central led Battle Creek through much of the opening game Thursday and battled the Bravettes right to the wire before bowing 25-22. The Cards could not handle 6-foot-1 Cori Hobbs over the final two games, as the junior leaper ripped 26 kills to lead 25-18, 25-16 wins.
