Hospital Board seeks bids for new project

March 31, 2009

Boone County Health Center Board has decided to proceed with a construction project that would result in 25 private patient rooms and add other facilities to the hospital.

The board voted last Tuesday night, March 24, to approve the process and have its construction company, Beckenhauer Construction of Norfolk, obtain firm bids for the entire project.

The total project carries an estimated cost of $6,735,000 and has been under study since last year. The cost would be paid with hospital operating revenues.

After reviewing the bids in May, the board will decide whether to proceed with the entire project or just the first phase of the work.

Funds are already being set aside for the addition, according to Vic Lee, CEO and president of BCHC.

“There will be a project,” he said. “The board is just waiting to decide on the scope.”

March 31, 2009

Nebraska property taxpayers are no longer being allowed a “grace period” on interest charges for property taxes paid on the date they become delinquent.

First half of 2008 property taxes become delinquent on May 1, 2009.

Previously, the policy of the Boone County Treasurer’s office was to not charge interest for property taxes paid on May 1. However, a January opinion from Nebraska Attorney General Jon Bruning states that county officials have no authority to grant this grace period. Read more
