On Thursday, March 19 the Boone Central speech team competed at the state tournament. Competing were the OID (oral interpretation of drama) team members senior Halie Smith, juniors Kevin Carder, Andrew Texley, Miles Wynn and Lauren Bygland.

Also competing were senior Hilary Wolf in informative, junior Kayla Kettleson in Humorous prose and junior Kevin Carder in entertainment speaking.

First rounds started at 8 a.m. and went very well for Boone Central, with nerves making their presence known. Second rounds began at 11 a.m., and the team gained confidence with high hopes of qualifying for the finals.

Making the cut into finals meant they would compete against five other speakers for medals.

The stakes were raised for Kevin Carder in entertainment, where ties had increased the field to nine total finalists. Kevin competed well, speaking on Virtual Vacation Goggles, and earned a sixth place medal.

Also advancing to finals was the OID team with their performance of “Cinderella Wore Combat Boots”. They worked their magic against five other teams, earning a third place medal. Read more

Because of this friendship, Martin and his friend Petra Kleinlein, also a native of Germany, visited Albion last Friday and spent some time looking at the Boone County Museum and the community.

Martin said he liked both the people and the prospects for projects here. He said he would like to form a relationship between the community and the School of Architecture for possible future projects.
