Courthouse renovation will proceed
April 21, 2009
Renovation of the Boone County Courthouse could begin within the next several months.
After nearly two years of consideration and many changes, County Commissioners on Monday approved the basic plan for renovation and authorized their architects and construction manager to move forward with the project.
Initial plans to build an addition for a new courtroom were shelved several months ago, and the project now includes only renovation of the existing building.
Brad Kissler, principal architect with Canon Moss Brygger and Associates presented the renovation plans Monday to county officials. Although the basic plan is in place, commissioners reserved the right to make some changes as the project moves toward construction.

NPPD gets 20 proposals from wind farm developers
April 21, 2009
A total of 20 proposals from nine wind developers were received by Nebraska Public Power District in response to its most recent wind energy-related Request For Proposal (RFP), which closed April 15.
Last November, NPPD issued the RFP calling for construction of an 80-megawatt wind farm in either the Petersburg/Elgin or Broken Bow areas. NPPD would then purchase the electricity generated at the wind farm through a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).
The process is similar to NPPD’s first wind-energy related RFP, except that specific locations for the wind farms were identified and also allowed privately-owned developers to make proposals using land on which NPPD currently has agreements with landowners. Developers could also propose projects on land they control as a company.
NPPD received eight proposals at Broken Bow and seven at Petersburg/Elgin on the NPPD controlled sites. Private developers also submitted proposals on their own sites, one at Broken Bow and four in the Petersburg/Elgin area.
Private companies bidding on their own development sites included Third Planet Windpower and Midwest Wind Energy, both of which have development sites in the Petersburg/Elgin area. Invenergy is another private company that submitted a bid.
