Health Dept. director outlines H1N1 plan

September 22, 2009

Plans for dealing with the H1N1 flu in east central Nebraska were outlined for the Boone County Commissioners Monday by Rebecca Rayman, executive director of the four-county East Central District Health Department.

Rayman reported that about 18 percent of students at Columbus High School were absent due to illness on Monday. This is presumed to be mostly H1N1 flu, because the seasonal flu won’t begin until later in the fall.

Centers for Disease Control (CDC) are not recommending school closings due to H1N1, which has been a relatively mild disease for most people who have contracted it so far.

“They are recommending use of hand sanitizers, anti-bacterial cleaning of all surfaces, countertops, door knobs and other areas that may be touched,” Rayman said. Thorough hand washing is a top priority. More details in the Albion News Print Edition.
