Corn harvest in Boone County.
After more than 1 1/2 inches of moisture from rain and snow in some sections of Boone County last week, area farmers were beginning to get back into their fields early this week.

Most fields were still muddy on Monday, but corn harvest was in progress on some sandy soils. Some soybean fields were being harvested by Monday evening.

Wet weather has slowed the corn and soybean harvest throughout the state.

His-to-ree!
Boone Central overcame all obstacles Tuesday, Oct. 13, at the 2009 Nebraska Class C State Golf Tournament - miserable weather, state tourney inexperience, defending champion Kearney Catholic - and won the school’s first-ever girls golf state championship.
It was a dramatic finish to a stunning season by the Cardinals, who had trouble even fielding a full team in 2008.
Boone Central finished with a 363 score over the 18-hole Riverside Country Club course in Grand Island, well ahead of Kearney Catholic (376) and Grand Island Central Catholic (382). Read more

Sometimes statistics are misleading.
However, in the case of Boone Central’s 28-7 gridiron loss to host David City Saturday, statistics pretty well summed up the story of the game.
Where was the offense?
The Cardinals got a 98-yard touchdown dash from senior Jerad McLean with 1:18 remaining in the contest to avoid a shutout. On their 27 other rushing attempts, Boone Central runners gained just 41 yards (1.5 avg. per carry).
The Cards had one additional big play, a 37-yard halfback pass from Logan Frey to Keenan Howell. BC’s other four pass completions gained 13 yards (3.2).
In all, the Scouts outgained Boone Central 301-189 in total yards, outrushed the Cardinals 231-139 and piled up a 17-4 advantage in first downs. Read more
