Wow! Cards Win 1st Boone Central State Golf Title

Boone Central overcame all odds - miserable weather conditions, state tourney inexperience, defending champion Kearney Catholic - and won the school’s first girls golf state championship Tuesday in the 2009 Nebraska Class C State Tournament at Riverside Country Club in Grand Island.

Led by junior individual runner-up Brooke Bolin’s 78 and medal performances by sophomore Britany Seda (6th, 85) and freshman Amy Ahlers (11th, 87), the Cardinals put together a team total of 363, their second best score of the season, to handily defeat Kearney Catholic (376) and G.I. Central Catholic (382). Rounding out scoring for Coach Jesse Brodersen’s squad were senior Kayla Kettelson (113) and sophomore Breann Thorberg (126).

BC Linksters 2nd In District, Qualify For State

The Boone Central girls golf team earned a chance to cap its sensational 2009 season in style, qualifying for the Nebraska Class C State Tournament Tuesday, Oct. 6, with a runner-up team finish in the C-1 District at Quail Run in Columbus.
Led by three top-five medalists, the Cardinals posted a 398 team score at Columbus to finish behind Scotus (394) and were scheduled to conclude their fall campaign in the Class C state meet at Grand Island’s Riverside Country Club Tuesday. Read more

Playing its most physical, mistake-free football game of the season, Boone Central defeated Madison 25-6 Friday, Oct. 9, in Albion.
The district victory was the Cardinals’ second straight and improved Boone Central’s 2009 record to 2-4.
“We played with enthusiasm and confidence,” commented veteran Cardinal Coach Arnie Johnson. “It was fun to see the team play with a little passion, which comes from knowing what you are doing.

Boone Central’s cross country teams had individual runners place in the top three of each division Friday in the annual combined Bloomfield Invitational/Mid-State Conference Meet at Bloomfield.
Senior Kevin Carder finished third in the Mid-State portion of the event and fourth overall while freshman Cassidy Pribnow took second in the Mid-State and fifth in the overall meet. Both runners posted times among the best in school history. Read more

A frustrating 2009 Boone Central softball season marked by numerous “narrow misses” ended Thursday with two more tough losses in the C-5 District tournament at Central City.
St. Paul broke a 1-1 tie with three late runs to defeat the Cardinals 4-1 in the opening round and host Central City rallied for four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to nip BC 6-5 in an elimination game. Read more

4-H Achievement event set Sunday

Boone County 4-H will hold their annual Achievement party and meal on Sunday, Oct. 18, at the Boone County Fairgrounds Event Center in Albion from 3-5 p.m.

Fair premiums and 4-H stories may be picked up at the event.
