Power line meeting planned for Petersburg

More information meetings will be held in January on the proposed new electric transmission line from Petersburg to Ericson.

Community and county leaders are being invited to meetings on Wednesday, Jan. 6, at Petersburg and Ericson.

A 7 a.m. breakfast meeting will be held in Petersburg at the Legion Club, and a 12 noon luncheon meeting will be held at the Starving Stallion in Ericson.

These meetings are an opportunity to provide feedback on the new transmission line, which is needed to support a pumping station on the TransCanada Keystone XL crude oil pipeline through central Nebraska. The transmission line will connect the new NPPD substation east of Petersburg with a new Loup Valleys Rural Public Power District substation to be located near Ericson.

H1N1 clinic set at Health Center

As of Monday, Dec. 21, the H1N1 flu vaccine has been made available to all ages in Nebraska.

Boone County Health Center will be providing a free public clinic for both nasal spray and injectable vaccine on Tuesday, Jan. 5, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Commons Area of the hospital.

Persons who wish to receive the vaccine are welcome to attend. Children who have received their first dose through the Health Center and are needing their second dose will be excluded from this clinic. They should contact the Health Center to set up an appointment.

Michael Ray Beierman, 42, of Albion died Thursday, Dec. 10, 2009 at the University of Colorado Hospital in Aurora, CO. Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 14, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Albion. Fr. Stan Schmit officiated. Burial was at the Parish Cemetery.

The Boone Central Lady Cardinals remained unbeaten in the early portion of the 2009-10 girls basketball season last week, winning their third and fourth contests over Central City and Pierce.
“We are playing well, but need to find consistency scoring the ball,” commented Boone Central Coach Mike Kennedy. “This will be a tough week for us and we look forward to continuing to improve as a basketball team.”
Boone Central traveled to Genoa to face 2-0 Twin River Tuesday. The Cardinals will host 4-0 West Holt, who upset BC last season, on Saturday. Read more

For the second straight week, the Boone Central Cardinals were on the wrong side of the final tick of the clock.
One week after a potential game-winning halfcourt shot was released just after the final buzzer by the Cards, visiting Central City burned BC with a deciding lay-up that dropped through the net as time expired Thursday.
That dramatic shot by Ben Clausen ended a see-saw affair with the Bison on top 47-45. Read more

Cardinal Wrestlers Face Tough Competition

Learning experiences continued for a young Boone Central wrestling team last week with the Cardinals competing in a dual at Creighton and the York Quad.
With just six varsity wrestlers, Boone Central earned three victories at Creighton Thursday and followed with three runner-up finishes at York Friday.
The Cardinals will host two of their three 2009-10 home meets this week. Grand Island Northwest will travel to Albion for a dual Thursday night (6:30) and the Boone Central Dual Tournament will be held Saturday (8:30 a.m.). Read more

Olson Receives All-State Grid Awards

nathan-senior.jpgNathan Olson, a two-way lineman for the Boone Central Cardinals, received All-State Football awards this past week from the Lincoln Journal-Star and Huskerland Prep.
Olson, a 6-foot-4, 220-pound senior, was named to the Journal-Star Class C1 All-State team as an offensive lineman. Huskerland Prep honored the Cardinal as a defensive lineman. Olson was Honorable Mention in the Omaha World-Herald all-state selections. Read more

Santa visit, Christmas dinner coming up!

Santa Claus will be visiting downtown Petersburg this Saturday, Dec. 19, at 11 a.m. in the Petersburg Fire Hall.

Area children are reminded to register for the FREE bike give-away at any local business. the drawing will be held during Santa’s visit.

On Monday, Dec. 21, the Petersburg Community Club will host its annual Christmas supper and entertainment at Werner Hall. Doors will open at 6 p.m. with a cash bar, the meal at 7 p.m. and the show following. Ventroloquist Greg Claasen, who provides a very unique and humorous evening of entertainment.
