There’s an old saying that “two out of three ain’t bad”.
That may or may not have been the case for the Boone Central girls basketball team last week.
While the Lady Cardinals were happy to add two more wins to their season total, they were also disappointed by their first loss of 2009-10.
After runaway victories over O’Neill and Madison, Boone Central was defeated at West Point Central Catholic Saturday in a Mid-State Conference battle between the #3 ranked teams in Classes C1 and C2 (Omaha World-Herald).
“This was a disappointing result for us,” acknowledged Boone Central Coach Mike Kennedy. “We need to regroup and get ready for a tough Scotus team that has played a very difficult schedule to this point.” Read more

While pleased with the victories, Cardinal Coach Dan Zoucha said Saturday’s game highlighted some areas his team still needs to improve on.
“The next two weeks are going to be critical for us in getting ready for the conference tournament and sub-district play,” Zoucha noted. Read more

Card Wrestlers Continue Improvement

January 19, 2010

The mission for a young, shorthanded Boone Central wrestling team in 2009-10 has been ‘improvement’.
Cardinal Coach Dale Bonge says his charges continued working hard at that task in meets at O’Neill and Gibbon last week.
“Overall, we are continuing to see improvements throughout the line-up,” Bonge praised. Read more

While many athletic events around the Albion News area and across the state were postponed by another winter storm last week, the Boone Central wrestlers were able to compete for the first time since the holiday break, opening the 2010 portion of their schedule at Aurora and Elgin.
The Cardinals began their week in a tough Aurora Quad against the host Huskies, Cozad and Omaha South.
With the annual High Plains Invitational - scheduled for Jan. 8-9 - cancelled, Boone Central headed north Saturday for the Elgin Invitational.
Cardinal Coach Dale Bonge said it was important for his young squad to participate in the meets.

Lady Cards prepared to fly

First of all, about that Global Warming stuff? Way overated.
We did find one thing that could slow down the undefeated Boone Central girls basketball team, at least momentarily, last week - ‘Ol Man Winter.
The Lady Cardinals unblemished record is intact and they are still ranked #3 in Class C1 by the Omaha World-Herald, so the effects of last week’s postponements weren’t tangible in that regard.
You just hope the intangibles of a lengthy layoff - two holiday tournament games played in the space of 21 days - don’t become a major issue this week. Coaches always fear potential problems with conditioning, rustiness and momentum in these situations. Read more
