Development Corp. seeks downtown projects
March 23, 2010
In preparation for the new downtown redevelopment plan, Albion Economic Development Corp. decided last week to begin talking with downtown property owners about possible storefront rehabilitation projects.
Members said they would like to develop a list of property owners interested in remodeling projects in order to begin downtown redevelopment.
Funding to help with the cost of such projects could come from TIF financing, possible grants or low interest loans. These tools could be available if the city council approves a blighted/substandard study of the downtown area, along with the downtown redevelopment plan.

Wind farm contractor to be decided by mid-April
A completed site plan for the Laredo Ridge wind farm, showing locations for all 54 wind turbines, was presented to the Boone County Commissioners and the County Planning Commission Monday.
Patrick Dalseth, project coordinator with Midwest Wind Energy, said the plan should meet all existing county regulations. It is now being reviewed by Zoning Administrator Barb Hanson, who will issue zoning permits for the wind development if it meets requirements.
All landowner leases have been signed for the project, Dalseth said. Six potential construction contractors have visited the wind field, and their bids were due March 19.
“We should know the contractor by mid-April, and the successful contractor will likely be mobilizing by the end of April to early May,” he said.

Boone Central Returns 9 State Track Qualifiers
March 23, 2010

With talent, depth, experience and leadership, Boone Central’s girls and boys track & field teams have an optimistic outlook for the 2010 season.
Boone Central sent 15 athletes to the state track & field meet in 2009, one of its largest contingents in recent years, and nine of those competitors are back to anchor the Cardinal squads this spring.
BC also has fairly strong numbers - 29 boys and 27 girls - which should provide the depth to allow competitive scoring in larger meets. Read more
