Mark Lueken (12) and James Kelley (28) battle for position in a Late Model heat.
However, despite no 2010 BCR season point leaders winning feature races Friday, none lost their positions atop the standings.
Travis Albracht of Lincoln took the victory in the Hobby Stock A Feature, but Neligh’s Jason Wilkinson, 4th in the feature race, retained a sizeable 21-point advantage in the standings at the end of the night.
Ross Afrank of Norfolk outdueled Albion’s Tyler Iverson and Mark Lueken in the Modified feature event, leaving Iverson 10 points in front of Lueken in the overall point battle.
In the Late Model A, Eric Vanosdall of Winside raced to the win, with Lueken finishing 10th, but the Albion driver maintained a 10-point cushion over fellow local Mike Kelley, who ran 4th in Friday’s feature.
In the closest current season race, Mark Hooker of Albion made up sizeable ground in the Street Stock division. Hooker took 2nd place in the stock car feature behind Albion’s Dave Langan and pulled within four points of Wilkinson, who finished 8th in the A event.

City well plan to be modified
June 29, 2010
A new well plan with fewer “bells and whistles” will be created for the City of Albion after a special city council meeting last Tuesday night, June 22.
The council had learned June 8 that the low bid for the initial well and equipment design was $341,721, or about $90,000 higher than the original engineer’s estimate of $250,000. At that time, the council elected to table the awarding of the bid until the June 22 special meeting, and directed the engineer to work with the low bidder to negotiate the project cost down.
Mayor Jim Jarecki and the council discussed possible changes in the project with engineer John Zwingman and Tracy McConnell of Grosch Irrigation, the low bid contractor.
Big fireworks display set Friday
June 29, 2010
Although Albion’s community fireworks display should be over in less than half an hour this Friday night, July 2, it will be one of the biggest and best displays staged in the community in recent years.
The display should begin at about 10:30 p.m. Friday just north of Boone County Raceway. It is sponsored by the City of Albion with pledges and donations of more than $6,000 from local businesses, individuals and organizations.
The project originated with an idea of creating a unified Independence Day event that the community could rally behind. First, a fund drive was held to raise the money for fireworks, which have been sponsored by the raceway on its own for about 10 years.

Governor declares flood disaster
June 29, 2010
Gov. Dave Heineman requested federal disaster assistance on Tuesday, June 29, for several counties across the state to help individuals, businesses and governmental entities recover from the severe storms and flooding that struck Nebraska beginning June 1.
“Recent storms have resulted in historic flooding,” said Gov. Heineman. “We have seen significant damage to homes, farms, ranches, businesses and infrastructure. There have been countless stories of communities coming together to sandbag, and neighbors helping neighbors. I am proud of Nebraskans for pulling together during these storms.”
