Petersburg area residents learned last Tuesday night that Edison Mission Energy and Wanzek Construction are gearing up to begin building the Laredo Ridge wind farm project northeast of town.

About 50 people attended an informal meeting at the Petersburg American Legion Hall, where Kevin Fullerton, project manager for Edison Mission, outlined the project.

Fullerton introduced Abby Daniels, Edison Mission senior assistant management analyst; John Fraley, Edison Mission site construction manager, and Wanzek Construction personnel including Chad Eken, project manager.

Edison Mission has closed on the 81-megawatt project with Midwest Wind Energy. Some construction work was expected to start this week, and many more personnel are expected to arrive in early July. The major road and foundation construction work should begin July 5.

“We will have an aggressive construction schedule,” said Fullerton.
