Eulalia Pritchard, 93 of Spalding, died Saturday, July 17, 2010 at the Friendship Villa in Spalding. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday, July 22 at St. Michael’s Church in Spalding. Interment followed in the parish cemetery. Condolences may be sent to www.levanderfuneralhome.com
Mary E. Reynoldson
Mary Ellen Reynoldson, 62 of Ham Lake, MN, died on July 20, 2010. A celebration of Mary’s life will be held at Zion Lutheran Church, July 30. Ilene I. (McNurlin) Fletcher
Ilene Iona (McNurlin) Fletcher, 80 of Tucson, AZ, died on July 10, 2010. The family will have a memorial picnic in her memory in late September. She was born the daughter of Leigh and Hattie McNurlin on Feb. 20, 1930, at Boone, NE.

The sign is located on the west side of Highway 14, just south of Knotty Pine. It was a “capstone” project of the NCIP Leadership Committee. Petersburg State Bank employees are handling all the communication messages for the new sign.
Construction progress shows at wind farm

Bolt cage for wind tower foundation.
Excavation is complete for the foundations at 14 tower sites, according to Scott Delvo, field superintendent for Wanzek Construction, the wind farm contractor.
On Monday, excavation was in progress on four tower sites.
The large steel foundation assemblies, called “bolt cages,” are complete for 10 of the tower sites.

New signs welcome Albion visitors

New Albion welcome sign.
Monument-syle signs were installed on the Highway 14 north entrance (above photo), and a double sign was located on the north side of the Highways 14-39 junction southeast of town. New signs were also installed on the existing posts at the east and west Highway 91 entrances.
The signs are a project of the Albion Economic Development Corp., and are designed to match the new Albion logo. The cost was paid with city sales tax funds earmarked for economic development, and with funds from a Mansfield Foundation grant.
The date on the bottom of the signs (est. 1882) is the year Albion was first incorporated by the State of Nebraska.
High School, Middle School registrations Aug. 3-4

With classes for the 2010-11 school year set to begin Wednesday, Aug. 18, Boone Central Public School has announced registration information for high school and middle school students.
Registration for high school and middle school students will be Tuesday, Aug. 3 from 1-8 p.m., and Wednesday, Aug. 4 from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. and 1-4 p.m.
Boone Central Middle School will hold registration at Albion both days at the same time as the high school students. Sixth graders DO NOT need to register.
All seventh through 12th grade students participating in football, volleyball, golf, softball, and cross country must turn in their physical forms before the first day of practice. Cheerleaders and dance squad need to turn in physicals forms by Friday, Aug. 20, before the fall sports rally.

Burglary suspect nabbed quickly

A 21-year-old Pender man was arrested in Greeley County on burglary charges Saturday, July 24, after two rural Boone County businesses were burglarized overnight Friday.
Michael Malmberg of Pender, NE, was arrested in Spalding by the Boone County Sheriff’s Department with assistance of the Greeley County Sheriff’s Department.
The charges stem from overnight burglaries at scale house facilities operated by the Gale Noble feedlot and Nebraska Pork Producers. Both are located on 110th Avenue in Boone County near the Greeley County line. Equipment with a total value of about $8,000 was taken.
Albion Thunder Highlights Season with Class D Runner-up Finish

Teams always want to finish their seasons on a high note, playing their best ball.
Boy, did the Albion Thunder accomplish that goal!
The Albion 16 & under girls softball squad put the final wrap on its 2010 summer campaign with an impressive runner-up finish at the Class D State Tournament July 16-18 at Hastings.
“The girls definitely played their best softball of the season,” acknowledged Thunder Coach Delmar Pelster. Read more
Extreme Concludes Banner Season At Class C State

True to its chosen team name, the Albion Extreme Lightning 16 & under girls softball team had an extremely successful 2010 summer season.
The Extreme Lightning, which earlier finished as runners-up in district play, concluded its campaign recently by placing third in league tournament action and competing in the Class C State Tournament at Auburn.
After losing to Pierce in league tourney play, the Albion Extreme bounced back to wallop Creighton, the eventual Class D state champion, 13-0 in the consolation contest July 7. Read more
