NCIP program coming to an end
November 30, 2010
A decision to end the 37-year-old Nebraska Community Improvement Program (NCIP) was made at a meeting Saturday, Nov. 20.
Attending were representatives from the Nebraska Department of Economic Development (DED), NCIP Coordinator, present and upcoming NCIP interns and six members of the NCIP Advisory Board, which includes Bernie Cunningham of Petersburg.
DED representatives stated that it was becoming increasingly difficult to recruit special award judges, and to hire judges and escorts for visits to each village/city in the competition. The yearly awards banquet costs have become prohibitive due to the downturn of the national and local economy.
Petersburg has won many NCIP awards in its population category through the years.
