Commissioners set salaries, approve new election districts

August 30, 2011

Salaries for county officials and employees were set by the Board of Commissioners during their regular meeting Aug. 29. The new salaries will be effective for the next calendar year, Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2012.

One change was made in a July 24 motion by commissioners regarding salaries. At that time, a five percent increase was approved for elected county officials, the County Assessor, Clerk, Sheriff and Treasurer. The Aug. 29 motion reduced the salary increase to 3.6 percent for these elected county officials.

A resolution was also adopted Monday to establish new election districts for commissioners. Due to population decline from 2000 to 2010, the commissioners established a new map for election districts to equalize population. The new district map shows an expanded land area for District 3, while Districts 1 and 2 will be smaller.
