High moisture corn harvested west of Albion last week.
Only a few fields of high moisture corn were being harvested last week in the Boone County area, but the harvest pace was expected to pick up this week.

Many soybean fields are rapidly drying down into harvest range, and recent dry and sunny weather is pushing the process along.

An early load of dryland soybeans from Boone County Monday tested at 10.5 percent moisture with a yield estimate of 60 to 62 bushels per acre, according to one area agronomist.

If weather stays dry, many area farmers could be harvesting soybeans by the end of this week.

Roads discussion occupies commissioners

September 27, 2011

Much of Monday’s Boone County Commissioners meeting was spent discussing road conditions with a group of residents who use 145th Street west of Petersburg.

A petition signed by some 36 residents west of Petersburg had been submitted to the commissioners, requesting that the present three miles of asphalt road on 145th Street be maintained, and that the county replace one mile of asphalt road that was removed earlier this year.

Eight of the petitioners attended Monday’s meeting to register their complaints in person. Several said the county is “going backward” in road conditions.

Beau Bremer (72) led BC defense at Ord
Beau Bremer (72) led BC defense at Ord
This was “old school”.
Head-knockin’, pad-poppin’, spit-flyin’ football.
There was nothing especially pretty about Boone Central’s C1-8 District battle at Ord Friday except the final 14-7 score favoring the Cards.
That was certainly a beautiful result for Boone Central after a very physical battle - delivering Coach Arnie Johnson’s 200th career coaching victory (159th at Albion/Boone Central) while improving the Cards’ season record to 3-1 and giving them an important 1-0 start in the district. Read more
