Despite several rough results against mat powerhouses, the Cardinals did score three victories in Saturday’s Boone Central Dual Tournament and finished 3-3 in duals during the week.
Boone Central had a tough night Thursday hosting Class B Top 10 G.I.N.W. and dropping 12 of 14 matches in a 66-12 loss.
“Northwest showed they are worthy of their ranking. They have a solid line-up with some very good wrestlers,” acknowledged Cardinal Coach Dale Bonge.
Saturday was a much better day for BC, as the Cardinals went 3-2 and placed 3rd in the Boone Central Dual Tournament with losses only to tourney champ Boys Town and Class C #7 Battle Creek.
“It was a decent day for our wrestlers - everyone found a way to contribute to the team effort,” Bonge said. “Kody Sock and Sean Soll led the way with 4-1 days and four pins each. Cody Shanno was also 4-1, but didn’t get much chance to show his talents, receiving four forfeits.
“Jacob Ritterbush and Ethan Wilke had their best days, going 3-2 with a pair of pins each. Also finishing 3-2 were Bobby Stopak, Jake Meyer and Scott Joe.
“Brent Janzen broke through with his 1st win of the year and Michael Lipker and Zach VanWormer also got a win apiece. Mark O’Brien continues to show tenacity and superb effort every time he steps on the mat. Jacob Olson contributed to the Wood River victory, giving up only a regular decision and no team bonus points.”
