Individual State Qualifiers
The Boone Central Bowling Club made their pin counts count Saturday.
Led by individual champions Brody Kelly and Nathan Hemmer, the Cardinal boys won the C3 District title at Ravenna Sports Bowl and the BC girls finished runner-up, with four team members joining the boys as qualifiers for the Nebraska High School Bowling Federation state tournament. Read more

Rolf elected to State Fair Board

Chuck Rolf of Albion is the newest member of the Nebraska State Fair Board.

Rolf was elected to represent District 3 on the State Fair Board of Directors duirng the Nebraska Association of Fair Managers convention last weekend in Kearney.

He has served on the Boone County Fair Board for over 27 years, and also served a four-year term on the board of the Nebraska Association of Fair Managers.

Only two election filings so far

Few candidates have filed for local offices in Boone County with the first filing deadline approaching on Feb. 15, 2012.

Incumbents must file by Feb. 15 for re-election to the same office or for election to a different office.

As of Monday, Jan. 23, only two incumbents had filed for re-election. They are Delwyn Lough, for a six-year term on the Albion Airport Authority, and Lisa Rasmussen for a four-year term on the St. Edward School Board.

For new candidates (non-incumbents) the filing deadline is March 1.

Chamber, AEDC banquet is Sunday

Albion Chamber of Commerce and Albion Economic Development Corp. will hold their joint annual banquet on Sunday, Jan. 29, at the Albion Country Club.

The social hour will begin at 5 p.m., followed by the dinner at 6 p.m. Both organizations will review activities and achievements of the past year, as well as goals for the coming year.

Guest speakers will be State Sen. Kate Sullivan, and Ann Gentle of Omaha, who will talk about communication and customer service. Members of the Boone Central speech team will provide entertainment.

Banquet tickets are available from Jill Anding, executive director of both organizations.

Gulbrandson becomes partner in veterinary clinic

Dr. Cody Gulbrandson has become a partner with Dr. Jeremy Young in the Town and Country Veterinary Clinic. He recently purchased Chris Martinsen’s share of the practice.

“Opportunities arose, and I decided to sell my share of the practice,” noted Dr. Martinsen. Dr. Martinsen will no longer be practicing at Town and Country Vet Clinic.

Dr. Young, of Elgin, joined the practice in 2006 and purchased Dr. Rick Cockerill’s share of the practice in 2009.

Dr. Gulbrandson, of Fullerton, joined the practice in January, 2011.

Dr. Cockerill is also practicing part-time at the clinic, which is located in Albion with satellite clinics at Elgin and St. Edward.
