It was the third straight state tournament appearance for Meyer, who finished the 2012 competition with one victory in three matches.
Meyer was pinned by Gretna’s Michael Hartnett (4:30) in the first round of the Class B 145-pound bracket, came back to defeat Dallen Johnston of Holdrege 8-3, then was eliminated by Hunter Poteet of Crete (pin, 3:13).
“Jake’s first opponent, Hartnett from Gretna, was the eventual third-place finisher and proved to be just too physical for Jake to hang with,” commented Boone Central Coach Dale Bonge. “After falling behind Johnston early in his second match, Jake came back to dominate the last two periods. He was only down 2-0 to Poteet entering the third period, but was caught on his back in a scramble situation.
“Jake represented the school and communities well with his efforts on the mat and actions off the mat. He finished the year with a record of 29-14.”
