SourceGas distribution rates to be subject of PSC hearings

Nebraska Public Service Commission (PSC) has announced it will hold town hall meetings in five Nebraska communities in SourceGas’ service territory during mid-February.
The first of these meetings will be held Monday, Feb. 13, at 11 a.m. in Plainview at the old Plainview High School Gym.
Other town hall meetings are set for Wednesday, Feb. 15, at Gering, Thursday, Feb. 16 at McCook and Holdrege, and Friday, Feb. 17, at Wood River.

Gulbrandson becomes partner in veterinary clinic

“Opportunities arose, and I decided to sell my share of the practice,” noted Dr. Martinsen. Dr. Martinsen will no longer be practicing at Town and Country Vet Clinic.
Dr. Young, of Elgin, joined the practice in 2006 and purchased Dr. Rick Cockerill’s share of the practice in 2009.
Dr. Gulbrandson, of Fullerton, joined the practice in January, 2011.
Dr. Cockerill is also practicing part-time at the clinic, which is located in Albion with satellite clinics at Elgin and St. Edward.

Albion voters to decide keno issue

Albion voters will decide in May whether to allow the keno lottery in the city.
On a 4-0 vote last Tuesday night, Jan. 10, the city council suspended rules requiring three separate readings, and approved ordinance to place the issue on city ballots for the May 15 primary election.

Another big year for building

Although total values were not as large as the previous year, Boone County had an excellent year for new construction in 2011.
The past year’s building activity for rural Boone County, and the communities of Albion, Cedar Rapids and Petersburg, represented a total investment of more than $71.1 million. A total of 230 building or construction permits were issued.
A majority of this year’s construction value was again attributed to wind farm construction. The Third Planet Windpower wind farm total construction value was listed at $56,270,00. This total includes 27 wind towers valued at $2 million each, the substation valued at $2 million, and the operations and maintenance building in Petersburg valued at $270,000.

City well to be completed this month

New Albion city well
Construction is to be finished by Jan. 14, 2011. Inspection and approval by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services is then required before the well can be placed in service. The HHS approval is expected by the end of February.
Green Plains to buy St. Edward elevator

Green Plains Renewable Energy, Inc. (Nasdaq:GPRE) announced today its wholly-owned subsidiary, Green Plains Grain Company, has executed an agreement to acquire the grain elevator assets of KW Carter Company d/b/a JW Grain in St. Edward.
JW Grain has 1.9 million bushels of state-licensed grain storage and is located about 40 miles from the company’s Central City ethanol production facility. The JW Grain facilities, serviced by the Nebraska Central Railroad, can load 25-car unit trains.
Green Plains plans to increase the elevator’s storage capacity by up to one million bushels.
Heather Landauer opens new boutique

As the name implies, the store contains “fun” clothes and accessories for girls of all ages. Heatehr Landauer of Albion first opened the store in her home last August, and has now moved into a business space.
