Petersburg residents review survey results

Lowell Schroeder
About 17 local residents listened as Lowell Schroeder of Northeast Nebraska Economic Development District reviewed a compilation of results from 110 survey responses.
The main focus, said Schroeder, is for long term progress, and to keep building on community strengths.
Most community services and facilities received ratings of average to excellent in the survey.

Village Board talks street, sidewalk improvements

Possible Main Street sidewalk and street improvements were a major topic at the Petersburg Village Board meeting Wednesday night, Nov. 2.
Engineer John Zwingman outlined a number of possible improvements for the downtown area.

Punkin’ Chunkin’ attracts big crowd

It was difficult to count attendance when almost everyone arrived at the same time and no entry fees were charged, but organizers estimated a crowd of 1,250 and 1,500. A special guest was 2011 Kayla Batt of Alliance (above).
Eight air cannons and one trebuchet competed in the contest.
Due to the wind, long distances were substantially less in total feet.
Repeat winner was “Grampa’s Gun” with a crew made up of Ralph Weeder and his grandsons from the Lindsay/Humphrey area. Team members included: ‘Captain’ Kyle Wegener, Scott Jarecki, Tyler Cherry, Thomas Greisen of Lincoln, Easton Bomgart, Nick Jarecki and Matthew Wegener.
Boone County - Nebraska Wind Capital

Gov. Dave Heineman
Gov. Dave Heineman made the announcement during the commissioning ceremony Monday afternoon for Third Planet Windpower’s new wind farm near Petersburg.
He congratulated Petersburg and Boone County for being “the leader in the state’s major move into wind power.”
With the addition of TPW Petersburg, the county has two wind farms with a total capacity of 121.5 megawatts of wind power generation, which surpasses the total wind capacity of any other county in the state.
The total includes 81 megawatts of capacity from the existing Laredo Ridge Wind Farm (54, 1.5 megawatt towers), and 40.5 megawatts from the new TPW Petersburg Wind Farm (27, 1.5 megawatt towers).
Halloween Costume Parade set Monday

Petersburg Community Club will be hosting the 2011 Halloween Costume Parade and drawing on Monday, Oct. 31 at 4:30 p.m. in the Petersburg Fire Hall.
A drawing will be held for each age group.
Following the costume award ceremony, everyone will parade downtown and collect Halloween goodies from each participating business.

Partnerships to be noted at TPW commissioning

Partnerships played a key role in developing the new Third Planet Windpower wind farm near Petersburg.
Those partnerships and cooperative efforts will be emphasized by speakers at the commissioning ceremony for TPW Petersburg next Monday, Oct. 31, at 2 p.m.
The ceremony will be held at the Joe and Joyce Temme farm (Jeff and Jan Temme residence) five miles east of Petersburg.
Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman will be among the featured speakers.
