St. Patrick’s Carnival set March 14

St. Michael’s Parish, Albion, will be hosting their annual St. Patrick’s Day Carnival on Sunday, March 14 at the Boone County Fairgrounds.
A dinner will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Event Center.
A quilt raffle and a silent auction will also be held. There will be games and prizes for all ages.
District Legion Convention planned here

District II American Legion and Auxiliary Convention will be held in Albion on Sunday, March 21, at the Boone County Fairgrounds Event Center.
Legion and Auxiliary members and officers from throughout the area will be attending the event, which will be hosted by Albion Post #162 and Auxiliary.
Polar Dip is Feb. 20 at Cedar Rapids

Cedar Rapids community will be hosting its annual Toma Rutten Memorial Polar Dip this Saturday, Feb. 20, at Mel’s Landing on the banks of the Cedar River.
The bonfire will be lit at 2 p.m., and all comers will be invited to take their plunge into the Cedar River.
After the Polar Dip, in the Legion Hall, a soup supper and Chili Cook-Off, with celebrity judges, will be held. Later that evening, a Singing Bee and Dance will be held.
Valentine’s dinner, concert set

Albion Area Arts Council will present a Valentine’s dinner and concert on Sunday, Feb. 14 at the Albion Country Club.
Dinner will be served from 6-7 p.m. followed by the program, Some People: Songs from Broadway and Beyond.

Chamber, Foundation Banquet is Sunday

A joint banquet of the Albion Chamber of Commerce and the Boone County Area Foundation will be held this Sunday, Jan. 31, at the Albion Country Club.
The evening will begin with a social hour at 5 p.m., followed by the supper and entertainment by the Boone Central speech team.
An announcement will be made of the recent commitment by the boards of the Albion Economic Development Corp. and Albion Chamber to pursue a joint operating arrangement with a full-time director during the coming year.
Wesleyan Choir to perform here Friday

Albion Area Arts Council will present the Emmy-nominated Nebraska Wesleyan University Choir at 7 p.m., Friday, Jan. 15 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Albion.
The Wesleyan Choir is recognized throughout the U.S. and internationally for performing excellence. Their 90-minute concert will be rich in global diversity, including early Hebrew songs sung in Ladino, a Judeo-Spanish language, and Inca music sung in Quechua.

Boone Central Choral Clinic set Jan. 18

Boone Central High School will host the 65th annual Boone Central Choral Clinic on Monday, Jan. 18, 2010. Schools attending this year’s clinic are Aurora, Battle Creek, Boone Central, Cedar Rapids, Central City, Clearwater, Columbus Lakeview, Columbus Scotus, Elgin Public, Humphrey St. Francis, Newman Grove, Pope John XXIII, Spalding/Spalding Academy, St Edward, Twin River, and Wheeler Central.
The guest clinician is Mark Harmon, who has been Director of Vocal Music at Fremont High School for nine years.
