Alumni set July 18-20 schedule

Albion and Boone Central Alumni have announced a variety of events for Alumni Weekend, June 18-20, in Albion.
The weekend begins with stock car races Friday evening at Boone County Raceway.
Saturday’s schedule begins early with the 2009 Cardinal Run at 8 a.m. Events will include a 5k run, a two-mile fun run/walk, and a one-mile kids’ run.
Registration should be completed by June 9, and the forms are available at Boone County Fitness Center or Boone County Health Center. For information, contact Nicole Levander at 396-3165.
A new event, the Smoke ‘n Chrome Car Show & Shine, will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Fourth Street in downtown Albion. Contact Don Casper, 395-2017, or Doug Young, 395-2151, for details.
A four-man scramble golf tournament will start at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Albion Country Club. Contact Jesse at the ACC pro shop, 395-2900, to register.
The Co-ed Sand Volleyball Tournament will also begin at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Boone County Fairgrounds. Registration is due by June 14 by calling Michelle Devine, 395-2686, or e-mailing to caradinalalumni@yahoo.com. Beer garden and concessions will be available. No coolers allowed.
The Alumni Banquet will be held at the Casey building at the fairgrounds, with the social hour at 5:30 p.m. and banquet at 6:30 p.m. The alumni dance, from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m., is open to the public. Local restaurants will be serving buffet meals on both Saturday and Sunday for alumni weekend.
Albion garage sales are Saturday

Albion’s spring garage sales will be held with some starting Thursday through Saturday, May 8.
Maps of the garage sale locations have been produced again this year, and these will be available at local convenience and grocery stores.
Bloodmobile coming May 3

Red Cross Bloodmobile will be in Albion for a blood drive on Monday, May 3, from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Boone County Fairgrounds Casey Building.
All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients.

TeamMates events set this weekend

TeamMates Mentoring Program’s seventh annual One Hour Walk will be held Sunday, April 18, at the Boone Central track. In case of bad weather, it will be held in the high school gym.
The walk will be from 2 to 3 p.m. to celebrate the difference mentoring makes in the lives of youth. The One Hour Walk symbolizes the one-hour TeamMates mentors spend with their youth each week.
Following at 6 p.m., the 10th annual TeamMates banquet will be held at the Albion Country Club.
Garage sales, community clean-up set

Albion’s spring garage sales and citywide clean-up days are coming up in May.
Garage sales will be held Saturday, May 8. Albion residents who want their sale locations listed on maps should call Theresa Scheffler, 395-2336, by April 23.
Citywide clean-up will be Monday and Tuesday, May 10-11.The waste collection site will be on the north side of city hall.
Area residents and service organizations are encouraged to use these dates to clean up properties.
Any organization planning a litter pick-up for these dates should contact city hall.
Raceway, bank lead off July 4 fireworks drive

Boone County Raceway and Cornerstone Bank led off a fund drive for Albion’s July 4 fireworks display.
Boone County Raceway committed $1,500 for the fireworks show, and Cornerstone Bank contributed $300.
The display will be Friday night, July 2, 2010 at the fairgrounds after the stock car races, continuing a long-standing tradition at the raceway.
Goal of the fund drive is $5,000, with an additional $1,000 for an electronic firing system, mortar tubes and other supplies.
‘Husker Hoops’ here April 9

A special event, featuring Nebraska Cornhusker senior football players and 11 area high school senior basketball players, will be held Friday, April 9, at the Boone Central Gym in Albion.
Proceeds will help fund the Boone County Health Center’s Project Care and Comfort.
