Sen. Sullivan plans town hall meeting here Monday

State Sen. Kate Sullivan is planning to hold a town hall meeting on Sept. 12 in Albion to discuss legislative issues.

The meeting will be held at the Albion Country Club beginning at 4 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 12. All area residents are welcome to attend.

Mud drags again popular at Primrose

Big engines roared and the mud flew at the Mud Drags in Primrose on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 5.

A crowd of about 350 people attended the annual event sponsored by the Primrose Volunteer Fire Department. There were 87 contestants in side-by-side competition.

Rae Valley Heritage Association, Inc. held their 29th year of the Nebraska State Antique Tractor and Horse Plowing Contest last Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 27 and 28, at the Charlie Huisman farm west of Petersburg.

Above, threshing was a primary activity on Sunday afternoon with two threshing machines operating.

State antique tractor, horse plowing event set Aug. 27-28

Rae Valley Heritage Association is making preparations for its 29th annual Nebraska State Antique Tractor and Horse Plowing Bee to be held Aug. 27 and 28, 2011 at the Charlie Huisman farm west of Petersburg.

A full slate of activities are scheduled both days. Saturday begins with a consignment auction at 9 a.m. on the north portion of the grounds. Working events and plowing start at 11 a.m., followed by tractor games and the good old time antique tractor pull at 12 noon. The tractor pull features four classes of tractors.

A “Parade of Power” begins at 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Sunday’s schedule begins an outdoor worship service at 10 a.m., followed by a variety of special events to include horse and mule plowing at 12:30 p.m.

Rhythm & Ribs set Aug. 27 in Albion

Albion’s second annual Rhythm & Ribs event will be held Saturday, Aug. 27, on Fourth Street downtown. A wide variety of food and entertainment will be featured.

Registration of grillers will begin at 8 a.m., and the beer garden opens at 10 a.m. Food sampling and “people’s choice” judging begins at 12 noon, and music starts at 1 p.m. Children’s events will be held from 2 to 4 p.m., grilling awads at 4 p.m. and the rib dinner starts at 5 p.m.

Bands to be featured at the Rhythm & Ribs Concert will be “The Relics” of Battle Creek, “Matt Gagne and the Blues Experience” of Omaha, and “Conspiracy Theory” of Omaha.

Petersburg Community Club is planning its third annual “Bash in the Burg” on Saturday, Aug. 13, in the downtown area.

The event includes a BBQ Master Challenge contest. Grillers will begin at 8 a.m., and judging starts at 4 p.m. Sampling/People’s Choice begins at 6 p.m. and continues until the food is gone.

The “Bash” will also include a wine/beer/other concoction competition. Judging for this event also starts at 4 p.m., and sampling for adults begins at 6 p.m.

A homemade bread competition will also be held, with judging at 4 p.m. and sampling at 6 p.m.

Three major events coming up at Petersburg in August

If you think you are having a boring summer, then you’d better be prepared for the upcoming few weeks in the Petersburg area.

There are three major events slated, involving many volunteers and organizations.

Petersburg Community Club’s Third Annual “Bash in the Burg” is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 13. The third annual Petersburg Volunteer Fire Department Trail Ride is planned for Aug. 19-21; and the 29th annual Rae Valley Heritage Association’s Nebraska State Antique Tractor and Horse Plowing Bee is Aug. 27 and 28.
