The Newman Grove Community will be filled with events this Friday-Sunday, May 31-June 1 for this year’s Shell Creek Valley Days celebration. Friday and Saturday will be the scheduled city-wide garage sale event.

As an elementary teacher, Brody Kelley was searching for a book to provide important lessons to his students. Unable to find a children’s book that said just what he wanted to say, he decided to write one himself.

Concrete work has been completed for the new Boone County Epoxy building on the southwest corner of Second and Church Streets in downtown Albion. Tye Nolan and Derek Leifeld are partners in the business, which has been operating since 2016.

Boone County Health Centers (BCHC) has announced that Courtney Schindler, RT, is the recipient of the Caring Kind award presented by the Nebraska Hospital Association (NHA). This prestigious award underscores Schindler’s exceptional commitment to patient care, and her outstanding contributions as a respiratory therapist within BCHC.

St. Michael’s eighth grade graduation was held on Wednesday, May 8, 2024 following the 8:10 a.m. Mass. Graduates were (front, l. to r.) Maddie Kuta, Leah Erickson, Rylie Rankin and Tresdyn Stephens; (back) Father Mark Tomasiewicz, Reed Reinhart, Kaden Miller, Ian Litz and Principal Tina Thiele-Blecher. The Education of Excellence Gold award (98.0 GPA) was awarded to Leah Erickson and Kaden Miller. The Education of Excellence Silver award (97.0 GPA) was awarded to Maddie Kuta and Rylie Rankin.

There’s a fun old saying from people that “used to be” scared of the Fourth Estate – your newspaper. “Never argue with a man [or woman, 2024 edit] that buys ink by the barrel,” generally attributed to Attorney Roger Branigin of Indiana.

Projects have sprouted onto the landscape in the last month at the Boone County Historical Society Museum, with the memorial gazebo to be put up and landscaping to follow. Later this summer, an open house will celebrate the generosity of our Boone County patrons and the results of their generosity.

Newman Grove will be hosting its annual Shell Creek Valley Days celebration on Friday through Sunday, May 31 through June 1. Highlights will include the Extreme Bull Ride at 6:30 p.m.

St. Edward High School’s 121st annual Alumni Banquet is coming up this Saturday, May 25, at the school gym starting at 6:30 p.m.
