Circus theme highlights elementary program on May 3

It was a circus atmosphere at the Boone Central Gym last Friday, May 3, when the elementary students performed their annual spring music program “Welcome to the Boone Central Circus.” This event was moved into the competition gym and featured preschool through fourth grade. It all started with a “Circus Parade” and “The Circus is Coming” by K-4 students, followed by the singing of the Star Spangled Banner.

Boone Central’s National Honor Society, FBLA, FFA, and FCCLA chapters encourage members to give back to the community throughout the school year. Seventeen students and advisers Cassie Olson, Joel Sup and Abby Hitchler from Boone Central met with Rose Hill Cemetery Board members Gay and Bob Sandman and Wilma Rankin on the morning of Saturday, May 4, at the cemetery to assist in another round of cleaning veteran gravestones.

Four graduating seniors were honored with special music awards at the Boone Central Fine Arts Banquet Monday night, May 6. Recipients, l.-r., are Nathan Devine, Outstanding Instrumentalist; Bella Meyer, John Phillip Sousa National Band Award; Emma Lordemann, National Choral Award, and Myranda Nelson, Outstanding Vocalist Award. The annual spring concert, also presented Monday night, featured the concert band, concert choir, Breakfast Club and jazz band. Vocal solists included Dyanna Buettner, Eloise Martinez, Myranda Nelson, Jaxon Lipker, Emma Lordemann and Quinn Bittner. Instrumental soloists were Cooper Holan, Jessie Heynie and Bella Meyer.

Mid-Nebraska Lutheran Home surpasses goal

After sending out an appeal last month, the Mid-Nebraska Lutheran Home and Newman House in Newman Grove announced this week that nearly $131,000 in donations have been received. The total of $130,920 was reached on Monday, May 6, and about 110 donors had contributed as of that date.

Junior High State Finals Rodeo coming here

Boone County Fairgrounds in Albion will be the site of the 2024 Nebraska Junior High State Finals Rodeo on Thursday and Friday, May 16-17. About 100 contestants are expected for the rodeo events, which will begin at 9 a.m.
