Card JV boosts mark to 11-2

Boone Central’s junior varsity boys lifted their season record to 11-2 with a pair of hard-fought victories this past week. The JV Cards opened their week Tuesday edging host Guardian Angels Central Catholic 53-49.

4-H is fun! 4-H is for all youth, ages 5-18! 4-H is a part of University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension and the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources, as well as the Cooperative State Research Education and Extension Service – United States Department of Agriculture. Motto: To make the best better Mission Statement: Nebraska 4-H, developing all youth to reach their fullest potential through: • Utilizing the knowledge base of the land-grant university system • Learning by doing • Developing life skills Life Skills: During our lifetime, each of us develops skills we use to build relationships, work, manage families and homes, participate in communities, and use leisure time.
PASE (Premier Animal Science Event) contestants from Boone and Nance counties. Teams are forming now for 2024.

Boone County 4-H Shooting Sports: Organizational Leaders: Brian Maricle Project leaders: Ryan Neidhardt, Michelle Neidhardt, Jason Reynoldson, Mark Hooker, Joe Diessner, Rob Miller, Rob Smith, Maggie Smith, John Moeller, and Sean Kohl. Teaches basic skills in BB Gun, Air Rifle, Archery, Shotgun, .22 rifle, with a focus on Safety and Learning.
WILDLIFE ARTS -- These 4-H members created fossil prints at the summer Wildlife Arts workshop.

4-H Clover Kids is the officially recognized 4-H program in Nebraska for children under the age of eight. The program is designed to provide 5- to 7-year-olds a variety of educational and recreational experiences in a non-competitive environment. 4-H Clover Kids provides an excellent opportunity for youth to achieve their highest potential because early life experiences affect future development.

Agencies study impact of planting cover crops

Planting of cover crops is used for many soil health benefits, and it is widely accepted that cover crops reduce erosion by anchoring the soil. One thing not often discussed is how cover crops might affect potential groundwater recharge, and if there is a possibility of negative impacts to water quantity and to the producer’s water budget.

Big crowd on hand for opening Catholic Schools Week events

St. Michael’s School and the Albion Knights of Columbus kicked off Catholic Schools Week last Sunday, Jan. 28, with a pancake breakfast (below) and a large book fair in the KC Hall. Events are continuing this week with special dress-up days at St. Michael’s. On Friday, Feb. 2, there will be an all-school communion service, a movie at the Gateway Theatre, sack lunches and an early dismissal at 12:30 p.m.
