Getting a new book just got a lot cooler for TeamMates mentees at Boone Central Middle School. That’s because the school recently received a grant through the TeamMates organization to purchase and install a new book vending machine in the school.

Benefit set May 19 to help Paulsen tornado recovery

A benefit pancake feed will be held Sunday, May 19, 8 a.m. to 12 noon, at St. Anthony’s Parish Center, Cedar Rapids, to assist the Tracy Paulsen family with recovery from the April 26 tornado. This event is sponsored by the churches of Cedar Rapids.

Raeville has new warning siren

Last week, Fire Chief Baumgartner (left) and Assistant Chief Salber attached a warning siren to a pole located at the site of the Fangman irrigation well near Raeville. The siren will sound allowing residents and the surrounding area time to get to a safe place if a tornado does approach.

At the May Petersburg Community Club meeting, President Danielle Koch presented a First Dollar plaque to Nick Pelster, owner of P23Ag, LLC, Beck’s. Pelster is a Boone Central, Northeast Community College and Northwest Missouri State University graduate in agronomy.

Farmers attempting to plant

With the season rapidly moving on, some farmers by May 8, south of Petersburg, were attempting to get their crop into the ground following the recent rains. Much of the corn crop has been planted, although some were washed under or washed out due to heavier rains in some areas.
