It’s a different world now than it used to be. After visiting with a few retired teachers the other day, we came up with a conclusion.

As I sit to write this first of hopefully many columns to come – I wanted to make sure everyone understood what this adventure in Albion means to my family. While we may not be moving to Albion, or Boone County, I want to make sure that all of you understand my “business model” for running my newspapers – local news is very nearly all that matters.

Newman Grove Tree Board will again be awarding $100 tree grants to four city residents in 2024 in their annual program. The grants are for reimbursement of purchased and planted tree/ trees.

Many awards and honors were presented by the Newman Grove FFA Chapter and advisor Mikayla Martinsen during the annual banquet last week. Chelsa Reardon received the American FFA degree.

Speakers for the 2024 graduating class at St. Edward High School talked of memories and achievements over the past 13 years.

Humphrey hosted its annual Bulldog Invitational track/field competition Wednesday, May 1, with area teams Riverside and Humphrey/ Lindsay Holy Family among teams competing. The competition provided a great day as the 2024 season winds down.

St. Edward attended the McCool Paul Underwood Invitational at McCool Junction May 2 and enjjoyed some of its best success of the 2024 track/field season.

Petersburg welcomed Community Builders on May 1, and several local business owners were featured. Tours included four Petersburg businesses.

After sending out an appeal last month, the Mid-Nebraska Lutheran Home and Newman House in Newman Grove announced this week that nearly $131,000 in donations have been received. The total of $130,920 was reached on Monday, May 6, and about 110 donors had contributed as of that date.

Four graduating seniors were honored with special music awards at the Boone Central Fine Arts Banquet Monday night, May 6. Recipients, l.-r., are Nathan Devine, Outstanding Instrumentalist; Bella Meyer, John Phillip Sousa National Band Award; Emma Lordemann, National Choral Award, and Myranda Nelson, Outstanding Vocalist Award. The annual spring concert, also presented Monday night, featured the concert band, concert choir, Breakfast Club and jazz band. Vocal solists included Dyanna Buettner, Eloise Martinez, Myranda Nelson, Jaxon Lipker, Emma Lordemann and Quinn Bittner. Instrumental soloists were Cooper Holan, Jessie Heynie and Bella Meyer.
