District track meet changes schedule for Boone Central

Boone Central High School will be hosting the B-4 District track and field meet for both boys and girls next Tuesday, May 7. Due to hosting this district meet, there will be no school for Boone Central Middle School and High School (grades 5-12).

TORNADO HITS RURAL AREA HARD

Heavy storms and tornadoes in the Boone County area caused major damage to farm buildings, center pivots and even some houses last Friday afternoon, April 26. This was part of the same large storm system that spawned damaging tornadoes north of Lincoln, and in Elkhorn, Bennington and Blair last Friday.
Worst damage to a home occurred at the Tracy Paulsen farm southwest of Primrose. Crews from Nebraska Public Power District and Cornhusker PPD were on hand (upper left) to repair extensive damage to a main transmission line crossing through the property. More photos on page 16.

Commissioners hear from residents on drainage issues

Boone County Commissioners started their April 24 meeting with a discussion of water drainage issues west of Albion in the area of 250th Street and Old Mill Road. Steven Ruzek, Dave Warner and Rob Robinson told the board a waterway in that area backs up during big rains, which could cause flooding in some houses.

Area students will be among the graduates at Wayne State College commencement ceremonies for this Saturday, May 4, in the college’s historic Willow Bowl amphitheater. Graduate student ceremony will be at 10 a.m.

Young BC athletes vie in Pierce 9/10 Invite

The Boone Central Junior Varsity track/field team visited Pierce Tuesday, April 23, to compete in the Bluejays’ annual freshman-sophomore meet. There were many new personal -best performances and improvements entering the final stretch of the 2024 season. It was a great meet with great competition for the younger athletes.
