Wildlife art first place winner

Anhelina Umanska (right), a fifth grader at St. Edward Public Schools, was the first place winner for her age group in the recent Nebraska Wildlife Federation Poster Contest. She is shown with her teacher, Terri Osborn. Over 150 students in grades 4, 5, and 6 participated in this contest. Nine students’ posters were selected, three from each grade. Anhelina received first place in the fifth grade contest. Students were asked to research an endangered species in Nebraska and draw a poster of that animal. Anhelina drew an outstanding picture of a Whooping Crane. Anhelina, with her parents and Steve and Terri Osborn, attended the awards ceremony in Lincoln, NE on Saturday, June 15. Conservation & Education Committee Chair Russ Souchek presented the award.

Business moves to new location

St. Edward’s newest business building is now being occupied. Cncrete sidewalks were completed recently for the new St., Edward Floral building in St. Edward, and inventory was being moved to the new location last weekend. Heather Stephens said the shop was expected to be open at 301 Beaver Street this week.

Classmates over the years from Albion High School and Boone Central High Schools gathered on Saturday, June 15 for the annual Alumni Banquet in the performance gymnasium at Boone Central High School. Officers in charge of this year’s event were: co-presidents, Danielle Koch and Emma Bounds; vicepresidents: Amy Allgood and Stacy Gragert; secretary: Emily Olson and treasurer, Brittany Childress.

Downtown Athletic Club honors 2014 state title football team

A crowd of about 100 people saluted some of the top athletes from Albion/Boone Central at a new biannual event, the Downtown Athletic Club (DAC) Banquet, on Friday, June 14, at the Albion Country Club. The DAC has previously presented its Hall of Fame awards during the alumni banquet, but this year held its event independently on the night before alumni gathered.

Cornerstone Seniors finish week on solid 3-1 note

James Fogleman and Keaton Hunt combined for a one-hit shutout to start the team off for the week, fanning 10 batters through six innings to secure a dominant victory over O’Neill. The bats were hot as well with the Cards scoring 10 runs off 9 hits with runs in all but one inning of the contest.
