The final footings for a lot containing a portion of the former Dunes Motel in Albion was removed this past week. This picture was taken south of Runza and behind CarQuest of Albion, where a backhoe removed the concrete foundation of the former site and leveled the ground.

Albion seeking bids on $1.5 million in water, sewer projects

Albion City Council cleared the way last Tuesday for installation of water and sewer mains to serve newly annexed areas of the city. The council approved plans and specifications developed by JEO Consulting Engineers, and authorized advertising these projects for bids to be opened on Thursday, July 11, at 2:30 p.m.

Big storms threatened area Saturday

In the midst of the “buzz” over the weekend – the car show, alumni reunion, street dance and more – most, if not all cell phones in the area were also buzzing with extra excitement as severe weather rolled through the area in somewhat spectacular fashion. Severe weather warnings started mid-afternoon, and continued until after 7-8 p.m. as severe weather approached, then split around Albion and Petersburg, and washed through Boone County on all sides, but avoiding the festivities.

Area children will be the actors in the Missoula Children’s Theatre production of “The Wizard of Oz” this Saturday, June 22, in Albion. Two performances are planned at 3 p.m.

Grasshopper Awareness and Control in wet times

Dry conditions the past few years have reduced, natural grasshopper population controls that thrive in warm, humid weather. While recent rains may have helped slow number growth, grasshopper populations may become an issue for pasture and hay crops as the summer continues if dry weather returns.
