A Mass of Christian Burial for William “Bill” Lee Arends, 73, of Petersburg, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 13, 2024, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Petersburg.
At an early morning meeting Monday, the Boone Central School Board acted on several items in preparation for the upcoming school year. The biggest purchase approved was a new boiler for the high school building at $53,973 from Merit Mechanical of Tilden.
Albion Education Foundation has awarded college scholarships to three of Boone Central High School’s 2024 graduates. These are merit-based scholarships, awarded to the three topranked students in the Boone Central class of 2024 based on specified coursework.
The Boone County Commissioners gathered on Monday, June 10 to review plans for budget season, including hearing of expected wage increases to keep some County staff in the future. The increase of minimum wage to $15 per hour, plus some competitive local wages have driven a few county agencies to consider wage increases as a big part of their next budgets this season.
The Albion Legion Seniors got the bats going early and stifled the offense of PWG to secure 3-2 victory on the road on Sunday, June 2nd. Caden Stokes (SS) cracked a double on the first at bat of the game to get a runner aboard to lead things off for the Cardinals.
The Albion Junior Legion Post 162 baseball team had a four-game homestead this previous week. It was a great opportunity to get some games in and face great competition.
After months of preparation by Petersburg organizations and residents, the 320 BRAN bike riders, plus support group, arrived in Petersburg on June 5. They came after, according to most, a grueling 78-mile ride from Burwell despite having the wind at their backs most of the way.
James Fogleman was named the Offensive MVP for his contribution to the White team in this year’s NEN All-Star Football Classic on Saturday. Fogleman had 98 yards passing and one touchdown credited to his quarterback skills, and posted six carries of his own for 35 yards rushing.
A few rain sprinkles didn’t deter the enthusiasm for Petersburg’s annual Cruise Night last Saturday, June 8. Many local residents, and visitors from surrounding communities, made the event successful.
