Udine L. Sindelar, 89

Body
A Mass of Christian Burial for Udine L. Sindelar of St. Edward was held Monday, October 13, 2025, at St. Edward Catholic Church. Rev. Matt Gutowski officiated, and interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Udine Loy Sindelar, daughter of Fred and Myrtle (Engberg) Fisher, was born on November 7, 1935, in Milford, and she passed away Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at Cloverlodge Care Center in St. Edward. She attended St. Edward Public Schools and graduated with the class of 1953. On September 3, 1956, she was united in marriage to John “Jack” W. Sindelar at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. From this union, she was blessed with five children. The couple first made their home in Cedar Rapids, where they helped his parents operate the family bar for two years before moving to Columbus. In 1961, they settled in St. Edward, where they raised their family.

Graveside Service for Jack R. Steinbach, 78 of Sargent, will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 17, 2025, at Evergreen Cemetery with Pastor Mick Goc officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Army Funeral Honor Guard, Crosier American Legion Post #226 of St. Edward, American Legion Post #104 of Sargent, and the American Legion Riders. Steinbach passed away Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Good Samaritan Society – St. John’s in Kearney, NE. Miller-Levander Funeral Home of St. Edward, NE is in charge of the arrangements. Loss walk attended by around 70 on Oct. 1

Boone County Health Center hosted its first annual Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Walk, “ Remembering Every Step,” on Tuesday, October 1st at Fuller Park. The event, held in recognition of Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, drew approximately 70 participants including families, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and friends who came together in remembrance and support.

ACT joins with Valero for food drive this year

Applied Connective Technologies and Valero Renewables Albion faced off again this year to collect food and other necessities for local food pantries. The heated annual competition concluded on Friday, September 26th, using the renewable plant’s scales to determine the winner.

Theatre shortfalls may put future in jeopardy

Gateway Theatre organized on January 22, 2002, through a purchase agreement from Keith Theater and Gateway Youth Foundation, a 501(c) (3) entity. An agreement entered into with Boone Central Schools through a partnership with an entrepreneur class and a board of directors was made.

Temme pulls at Nationals in Mitchell

Kanon Temme, son of Jordan and Samantha Temme, got first at the Boone County Fair and went to Grand Island to compete at the State Fair. He ended up getting 1st place in the State Pedal Pull Competition in the 8 year old division! His family took him to pull at Nationals in Mitchell, S.D.

The Boone Central Lady Cardinals Softball team rounded out their regular season in good fashion with a 15-11 win over Ponca at home, and headed into the District tournament on Monday, Oct. 6.

Pumpkin patch raising good will

The “Pay it Forward” pumpkin is open for the season, located West of the golf course bottom of the hill, at the home of Nick and Ashley Krohn. Open all day - best to come after 6 p.m. Maggie and Sawyer Krohn have been raising pumpkins for eight years, in the beginning they raised a coaster wagon full now it is three large trailers full. The pumpkins of all sizes are now available for a freewill donation until they are gone. In the past the proceeds have been donated to area fund raises like Toys for Tots, Eli Porter children playground at the city park etc. Now they are donating books to all K-4th graders attending St. Michael’s and Boone Central schools. All the books donated are teacher approved.
