Not often that a high school team plays only two games in a week with both against the same school. But that’s exactly what was on the Cardinal boys docket last week.
The Boone Central girls basketball team took their five-game winning streak North to Norfolk Catholic (8-9) on Jan 29th. The Knights proved no match for the Cardinals as they bulldozed their way to a big win to extend their winning streak to six games.
On Monday, January 26th, seven Boone Central High School Choir students participated in the UNK Honor Choir and Band Festival in Kearney. Students completed a recorded audition in order to be considered. Over 600 high school students from over 100 Nebraska schools were selected to participate in the 3 choirs and 2 bands at this year’s festival. Students rehearsed throughout the day, and finished with a public performance Monday evening.
The Boone Central Cardinals and Lady Cardinal wrestling teams hosted the 2026 Dale Bonge wrestling invitational at the local school last weekend, Jan. 31.
City residents now have several options for receiving and paying their water/sewer/garbage bills, according to City Clerk Shelbie Schulte. City invoices for these bills are sent the first of every other month during the months of February, April, June, August, October, and December.
I love doing newspaper work. It’s a perfect blend of “stuff that’s always new” and “stuff that’s always the same.” So much of what newspapers do is ingrained into tradition - we cover the same seasons, the same sports, the same community events year after year after year, and I can almost always tell you what time of year it is by what’s going on in and around the community.
