6th graders compete at Summerland...

Boone Central 6th Grade Boys recently competed at the Summerland Boys Basketball Tournament that hosted 8 teams in their division. Their first game resulted in a close loss to a good EPPJ team, and because of this, they were forced to enter the consolation bracket. There they came away with big wins over Lutheran High Northeast and O’Neill High to win the Consolation Championship. Those players included, front row (l to r): Kayson Prchaska, Aiden Tisthammer, Iver Bygland, Austing Kleveland, Eli Krohn; middle row (l to r): Bennett Reinhart, Ross Beckwith, Bode Harris, Hudson Pelster, and Colin Petersen; and Coaches (l to r) Jon Petersen and Clayton Pelster.

The Boone Central Cardinal wrestling team wrestled in a triangular on Thursday, Jan. 29, picking up matches against Columbus Lakeview and Scotus Central.

Cardinal basketball downs Eagles

The Boone Central boys were back in action at the Mid State Conference Tournament on Feb 6th as they took on the O’Neill Eagles (4-14) in the ninth-place game at O’Neill. This one wasn’t pretty, but the boys got the job done and secured the win.

I wrestled (poorly) in high school, in what seems like a lifetime ago picking up at least some matches in Newman Grove’s gym - I don’t know that we traveled to Boone Central when I was younger. You didn’t miss much by not having me here! I was, historically, a Bstudent in high school, and that always seemed like it was “good enough for me” in a lot of other aspects of my life.

Norman D. Mangelsen, 73

A visitation for Norman Dean Mangelsen, 73, of St. Edward will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 5, 2026, at Palmer-Santin Funeral Home in Fullerton. In honoring his wishes, cremation will follow the visitation, and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. Burial of his ashes will take place at Fullerton Cemetery in Fullerton. Norman D. Mangelsen was born November 26, 1952, to Paul and Helen (Steckel) Mangelsen in Fullerton and grew up on a farm south of Albion, and he passed away Sunday, February 1, 2026, at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk. He graduated from Albion High School in 1972. Following graduation, he worked in road construction for several years. In April of 1977, he was united in marriage to Janice Reigle, and they were blessed with three children: Dana, Tara, and Jena.
