More than 300 bike riders from throughout Nebraska and several other states will be in Petersburg in just two weeks. Area residents are invited to help welcome the riders and attend the various events and meals planned in Petersburg Wednesday and Thursday, June 5 and 6.

Albion’s interfaith Vacation Bible School will be held June 10-14 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon each day.

Out of 54 students in the Boone Central 2024 senior class, 47 applied for local scholarships to continue their education. Of those 47, 38 of them (or 81%) received at least one local scholarship for a grand total of more than $84,000 in scholarships awarded from the local area community, according to Leanne Blanchard, high school counselor.

Archaeologists have discovered the ancient city of Ur located in Iraq. Once part of ancient Babylon, Ur was a massive city. It likely had a booming culture, as well as a developed religion. The center of its religion was what is known as The Great Ziggurat of Ur.

Albion Family Aquatic Center is scheduled to open on Thursday, May 30, according to information shared with the city council on May 14. Angela Gilbert will be pool manager this season.

After two months of reduced revenues, Albion city sales and use tax receipts are running nearly equal to last year. Total receipts for the first seven months of the 2023-24 fiscal year stood at $439,029 after February, just three-tenths of one percent above last year’s seven-month total.

City of Albion started its annual clean-up days on Tuesday, May 21, and is continuing today, Wednesday, May 22, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

With plans for housing development moving ahead, the Albion City Council on May 14 approved an agreement with JEO Consulting Group, Inc. for engineering and design to extend water and sanitary sewer improvements to serve South Park Subdivision.

Albion City Council last week approved a list of 29 local nuisance properties last Tuesday night, mostly due to unmowed vegetation and some due to accumulated trash and abandoned personal property. Warren Myers, nuisance officer, determined the list after surveying the community, and the declarations were effective May 14.
