Honored for 70 years

Newman Grove resident Elliott Broberg (center) was honored last week as a 70-year member of American Legion Post 73, Newman Grove. He was presented a 70-year membership certificate and pin by Commander Ivan Herchenbach and Treasurer and Former Adjutant Ray Flood. Elliot served the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, 1949-1953. He served on the destroyer USSYarnall, including two combat tours along the coasts of Korea. Newman Grove’s American Legion Post has been part of the community for nearly 104 years.

Donation for new Lindsay facilities

A capital campaign for new community facilities at Lindsay is now underway. Above, Lyle Herchenbach, manager of Farmers Co-op Lindsay is presenting a pledge of $250,000 to Aaron Reichmuth, Lindsay Area Development director for the Education, Event and Wellness Center Campaign. Theme of the campaign is: “Honoring the Last 100 Years by Building for the Next 100 Years.”

NG School Board reorganizes for coming year

Newman Grove School Board reorganized for the coming year during its meeting Monday night, March 22. Officers re-elected were Jeanie McCloud, president; David Fowlkes, vice president; Eric Stone, secretary; Ginger Buhl-Jorgenson as treasurer, and Christie Wallin as recording secretary.
RETIREMENT CELEBRATION -- Doc and Betz Quincy were honored by many area residents at their retirement celebration last Tuesday, Jan. 16, at the Newman Grove Community Center. They are shown with a special cake created in their honor by Deanna Lilja.
