May brought additional rainfall which kept residents mowing their rapidly growing lawns. By the first week of May some of the earlier planted crops were either being washed out or silted under causing a need for some to be replanted.

Preparations are being finalized for the annual Albion/Boone Central Alumni Banquet this Saturday,June 15, in the school gym. The schedule will include school tours at 4 p.m., a social hour at 5 p.m.

4-H CONTEST DAY

Albion’s Downtown Summer Concert Series will be opening on Thursday, July 4, with special entertainment by two specialty acts at The Venue on Fourth Street. “SongBlast, Dueling Guitars” will entertain from 5 to 7 p.m.

Lindsay community will be celebrating its annual Pivot Days on Friday and Saturday, June 28-29, with a wide variety of events. Preceding the celebration, the special auction of a Lindsay pivot point, with panel, span and overhang will be held Wednesday, June 26.

It doesn’t seem like the wage per hour issue in this country will ever really be finished. There’s not enough capital to make consistent or persistent wage increases, and if everyone just raises everything all the time, it’s actually the same as doing nothing.

Summer reading program has western theme

Many Newman Grove High School Alumni were on hand for the annual alumni luncheon on Saturday, June 1, at the high school cafeteria. In 2023, the Alumni Association changed to doing a lunch during Shell Creek Valley Days instead of Saturday night of Memorial weekend, to see if attendance would improve.

Alex Meyer, the Agricultural Education instructor at St. Edward Community Schools, was awarded the Outstanding Early Career Teacher Award by the Nebraska Agricultural Educators Association (NAEA) at the NAEA awards ceremony held June 5 at the Nebraska Career Education Conference.
