Final concert in series brings out big crowd

Several hundred people attended the final concert of the downtown Albion series last Thursday, July 25, featuring the Pioneer Band (top photo) and Grant Pickrel (right). They played five hours of country music at The Venue on Fourth.The concert, sponsored by the Albion Area Arts Council, also featured a free will burger feed sponsored by Cornerstone Bank, free tacos sponsored by Stealth Broadband, several food trucks, other refreshments and other activities.

Preliminary county valuations up 26%

Watch for a major increase in Boone County’s property valuations this year. Preliminary valuation figures announced Monday indicate a total valuation increase of about 26 percent or $663 million for the county as a whole.

Golf tourney raised $13,500 for new mammo machine

The 2024 Boone Central Health Center Foundation Golf Tournament was held on July 19, with championship honors going to a team of “Commscope/Anixter Wesco.” This year’s event was put together by the Foundation to help raise funds for the new 3D mammography unit. The event was able to raise $13,500 for the “Upgrade to Excellence” campaign.

NEST wraps up summer throwing season

In The NEST regular season, last place seed, Dylan Zoucha, found his stride and battled his way through the play in bracket to reach the Championship bracket. Dylan would eventually run out of steam in the Championship bracket, but not before eliminating the #3 seed from the tournament. Dylan is definitely the IRON MAN of the tournament having put up over 100 THROWS on the evening!!

Boone-Nance 4-H livestock quiz bowl team tops in state

Senior Livestock Quiz Bowl team members Ryan Cumming, Cassidy Maricle, Aidan Choat and Nicholas Groeteke outlasted their competition, Dawson County, to capture the Nebraska State 4-H Senior Livestock Quiz Bowl team title recently with a 4-1 record.
