Dorothy Ann (Lawrence) Galitz, 89, of Fayetteville, AR (formerly of St. Edward), passed away at home with family on April 6, 2024.

Dorothy was born near Primrose, to Loris (Shorty) Eldred Lawrence and Pearl Marie (Thayer) Lawrence on April 10, 1934. She was the eldest of six children. She attended various schools, always returning to Boone County. After graduating High School in St. Edward, she continued her education so she could then teach others, doing so in a country school for many years.

Dorothy married Dawine (Gene) Galitz on Sept. 20, 1951. Their union produced four children: Gene Lynn, Joyce, Michael and Kirk. Dorothy and her family lived across many states, but always seemed to return to the St. Edward area. Dorothy had many hats to fill, including, but not limited to, wife, mother, teacher, and house cleaner, prior to finding a place at Werner’s Service & Trucking, retiring from there after years of valuable service. In retirement, she spent much of her time speaking with others about the Bible and the wonderful promises it holds. Dorothy was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and, as such, held a strong faith in the resurrection of her deceased loved ones and looked forward to living in a paradise on Earth forever. Another of Dorothy’s favorite pastimes was hiking in the mountains with loved ones. She never met a mountain she didn’t love or a rock she didn’t find beautiful in some way.

Dorothy is survived by her son Gene (Judy) Galitz of Pavilion, WY, her daughter Joyce Martin of Fayetteville, AR, and daughter-in-law Susan Galitz of Graham, WA, grandchildren: Talina (Dustin) Beare of Fayetteville, AR, Gina ( Doug) Gardner, of Ogden, UT, Roger (Dani) Galitz, of Hebron, KY, Jamie Newman of Weston, ID, Susan (Darin) Stortzum of Silver Creek, Kerri Mowrey of St. Edward, Gary (Carri) Mowrey of Columbus, Nathan (Kandra) Mowrey of St. Edward and Kaden Galitz of Graham, WA, sisters: Janet Stultz of Omaha, Deloris Buettner of St. Edward, Pat Lawrence of Estes Park, CO and Bobby Jo Carman of St. Edward, as well as numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other loved ones.

Preceding her in death were her beloved husband Gene Galitz, her parents and two sons: Michael and Kirk Galitz, brother William Lawrence, son-in-law Dexter Martin, numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, and other loved ones throughout her long and full life.

In honor of Dorothy’s wishes, there will be no memorial service. Please honor her memory in any way that speaks to you. When you see a beautiful tree, sunset, mountain, rock, flower, animal, etc., know that Dorothy would love to admire it with you – just no spiders or snakes. She never could develop a love for those, God’s creatures or not.

Condolences to the family may be sent to: Joyce Martin, 2337 N. Fox Trl, Fayetteville, AR 72703.
