Slaymaker named Extension Educator

Nebraska Extension has announced that Pamela Slaymaker has started as the Food, Nutrition, and Health University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension Educator located in Antelope County. She will serve the acc ountability region of Boone, Nance, and Knox Counties in addition to Antelope County. Her focus will be Food, Nutrition, and Health (FNH).

Boone County Health ranked in “cleanest” survey

The accolades continue to roll in for the Boone County Health Center (BCHC) as the facility has been named one of the cleanest hospitals in the United States by “ Becker’s Hospital Review.” Among 350 hospitals nationwide, BCHC earned a 5-star rating for cleanliness, placing it among just nine hospitals in Nebraska to receive this prestigious recognition. The ranking is based on data from the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) surveys, a national, standardized tool that gathers feedback from patients about their experiences during recent inpatient hospital stays.

Rae Valley building burned for fire fighter training

Another one of Raeville’s historic buildings which was located on the west end of town known as the brick Raeville Garage disappeared Saturday when the Petersburg Fire Department did a controlled burn. The Raeville Garage was built in 1918 by Phil and Bill Borer they also operated the business which was owned by Adolph Schumacher. The large windows were set to catch the morning and afternoon sun making the cars inside shine. Tony Fisher ran it in the 30’s with the slogan The Big Garage in a little town” in the 40’s he added a black smith service, set tires and repaired wagon wheels. Leonard Pelster also ran it for a time.

Cornhusker Power donates funds to three local groups

Cornhusker Power Goodwill Fund trustees awarded $2,541 to 12 organizations at the August 12 meeting. Cornhusker Public Power District CEO/GM Clay Gibbs said, “These organizations are doing great things in the community, and we are very proud to be a part of it.

St. Michael’s teacher wins boat in radio prize event

The Boatload of Prizes summer promotion for News Talk WJAG, 106 Kix and 97.5 KEXL, came to an end on Saturday with an Elgin woman, Tina Thiele-Blecher, winning the top prize, a Lund fishing boat from Krotter Auto and Marine of O’Neill.
