Boone Central Elementary held a ribbon cutting ceremony for their new Book Vending Machine during the Back-to-School open house on Wednesday, August 15th. Albion Education Foundation grant funds helped purchase the Book Vending Machine with Boone Central Elementary PTO funding the books to stock it for the year.

Six former pastors on hand for Immanuel Zion 150th

Six former pastors and more than 200 parishioners, past and present, flooded every space of Immanuel Zion (IZ) Lutheran Church Sunday, August 18, for a celebration of the church’s 150 years The day began with a service of Holy Communion led by Bishop Scott Johnson, Nebraska Synod, Evangelical Luther Church of America (ELCA). He was assisted by IZ’s current Pastor Elizabeth Goehring together with several former pastors. Those in attendance were Pastors Michael Kern, Becky Beckmann, Brian Bergum, Annette Minderman, Larry Spomer and Nolan Saarem.

A gathering at the Boone County Event Center at the Fairgrounds was held last week – with representatives from Beck’s Hybrids flying in from the home office in Illinois, and a special question and answer period with Governor Jim Pillen for the second half of the event.
Governor Jim Pillen addressed the Beck’s crowd for more than an hour last week.

Valuations continue to rise county-wide, up 26%

According to the Boone County Assessor’s office, sales in the area have pushed valuations to an increase of 26.518% this year, increasing the total county valuation to $3.17 billion. Last year’s valuation of the entire county was $2.50 billion, and this year saw a change of $665,511,885 million to settle at this year’s figure.
